2016
A jam-packed year, 2016 was our most busy year yet and kicked off with Jazz at the Fisher Center, a completely sold-out series of world premieres at the Fisher Center at Bard College. This year’s biggest residency was our Salute to South Africa! Uhadi residency, which included a full week of education outreach and performances across the region and concluded with a celebratory concert at the Sosnoff Theater fit with a host of special guests like Vuyo Sotashe, Nonhlanhla Kheswa, TK Blue, Evan Christopher and others.
The summer of 2016 featured a series of back-to-back artist residency weekends in Tannersville, NY alongside our sister non-profit 23Arts Initiative. These residencies extended to performances at Bard Summerscape Spiegeltent and Music Mountain in Falls Village, CT. CJF specially-commissioned several projects this season included The Heartbeat of Harlem (Marc Cary), Ragtime & the Birth of Jazz (Chris Washburne’s Rags & Roots Band), and Fictions: Borges in Tango (Chris Pattishall Octet).
CJF worked with a record-breaking number of schools in 2016, delivering a year-round schedule of classroom visits, workshops, in-school performances and gifting complimentary tickets to regional students and families. In October 2016, CJF returned from our busy summer to present The Spiritual Side of Duke, led by John Lumpkin II and featuring a residency weekend of education outreach and performances all sponsored by a Greene County Council on the Arts’ CIP grant award. The year concluded with a guest conductor sponsorship with Julius Tolentino for the Greene County All County 2016 Finale Concert.
